Outings to the surrounding area

The beautiful countryside and cultural diversity around Memmingen play invite to eventful outings. And the best thing is that everything can be found nearby!

Only a few minutes away from Memmingen is a destination that is always worthwhile, namely the Charterhouse in Buxheim set amongst meadows and forests.

The imposing baroque cloister in Ottobeuren, the basilica of which can be seen from the Eisenburg district of Memmingen, is also at close proximity. The cloister houses a branch gallery of the Bavarian State Picture Collection (Staatsgemäldesammlung) as well as an exhibition about the history of the imperial abbey.

The Fugger castle in nearby Kirchheim is famous all over the world for its cedar hall. The castle of the Fugger family in Babenhausen is renowned for its museum. As in Buxheim and Ottobeuren, it documents the eventful history of the region in historical buildings.

The Crib Museum in Mindelheim, the Farm Museum in Illerbeuren – an entire “village within a village” with guided tours about the agricultural way of life – the forest adventure trail in Bad Grönenbach and the tulip tree avenue near Illerfeld castle belong to the range of special destinations around Memmingen.
